Greater South Cobb Kiwanis Projects

The Greater South Cobb Kiwanis Club supports the Terrific Kids program, which promotes character development, self-esteem and perseverance. Students in elementary schools work with their teachers to establish goals to improve behavior, peer relationships, attendance or schoolwork and to reach their goal during a specific time. Students that meet their goals are considered Terrific (Thoughtful, Enthusiastic, Respectful, Responsible, Inclusive, Friendly, Inquisitive and Capable).

Our club sponsors the program at Bryant Elementary. The program rewards character development and is very popular with guidance counselors. Once a month, students who meet their goals get recognized as Terrific Kids. Our club provides banners, bumper stickers, Kiwanis stickers, cups and pencils, and a member speaks to the kids and parents and hands out the awards.

Doing well in school is important, and we like to reward kids who work hard to raise their grades. Our club recognizes students that raise their grades to an acceptable range and either maintain or continue to improve them from one grade period to the next through the Bring Up Grades program, known as B.U.G. The payoff for the hard work? A place on the school’s B.U.G. honor roll, a party, and other prizes.

Similar to Terrific Kids, the B.U.G. Program provides prizes and incentives to middle school aged children for improving grades over the previous marking period. Bringing up any grade at least one level can qualify the child for recognition.

Key Club is part of our Kiwanis family. Key Club is for high school students, giving them the opportunity to develop leaderships and character skills while performing community service. Our club supports a Key Club at Pebblebrook High School.

It is a self-governing group; students elect their own officers and o their own projects. Our club members are mentors for Key Club students, instilling the importance of giving back to our community. We try to lead by example by attending Key Club meetings, train and advise club officers and their faculty sponsors, take part in Key Club projects and work with Key Club members to help out with Kiwanis projects.

Kiwanis International has joined forces with UNICEF to change the world for millions of mothers and babies. With The Eliminate Project, the Kiwanis family will raise US$110 million by 2015.

Tetanus is a painful and deadly disease, causing extreme sensitivity to light, sound and contact—even preventing the comfort of a mother’s touch. The Eliminate Project is our chance to help protect the connection between mother and child.
Thanks to our Global Campaign for Children, the gift you make now will help us change the world tomorrow. In fact, the Kiwanis family’s generosity will save or protect 61 million mothers and babies. It’s a monumental effort—to protect one of the most intimate bonds on Earth.
